GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition hit Steam yesterday. However, looking at the reviews and activity figures, it can be deduced that the game has not won the hearts of players. This is perfectly illustrated by GTA: San Andreas – the original version still gathers more people than the remaster.

Yesterday, quite unexpectedly GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition appeared on Steam. However, it seems that despite the sizable price reduction accompanying the launch, remastered collection is not very popular on Valve’s platform. The number of reviews is not great, and the original version of GTA: San Andreas continues to gather more people than the remaster.

Mixed reviews

If we look at the reviews given to the various titles included in the GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, it’s easy to see that gamers have mixed feelings. Among the most frequently criticized aspects here are optimization and visual shortcomings.

This is not particularly shocking, since Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was released in an abysmal technical condition, and as if that wasn’t enough, the package actually didn’t live to fix most of the bugs. After its release in November 2021, we received only a few patches, fixing the most critical flaws and improving performance.

In addition, the sheer number of reviews given to the remasters is quite low. For individual titles, it looks as follows:

  1. Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition – 111 reviews (66% of which are positive)
  2. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – The Definitive Edition – 133 reviews (70% of which are positive)
  3. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition – 139 reviews (of which 67% are positive)

It should be borne in mind here that some of the user reviews are repeated with several games included in the package.

The number of players is not too high

Also looking at the number of players spending time in the remastered versions of the games, we see that the whole thing is not very popular. At the time of writing, the refreshed Grand Theft Auto III was being played by 375 people (via SteamDB). The new version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on the other hand, can “boast” 378 players.

Of particular note here is the remastered GTA: San Andreas. This title now has 602 users playing, while the original version of the game has 713 people. This is interesting because the 2005 release has been unavailable in official digital distribution since the release of the refreshed version.

Of course, the bundle is still fresh on Steam, so it will most likely gain momentum in the coming days. In addition, those most interested in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition on PC could have bought the item on Rockstar’s official store long ago. Still, the results are quite low for such a large production and even a weekend surge of players may not change the situation dramatically.
